Henry Hellyer's Observations
Journals of life in the Tasmania Bush 1826-1827
Edited by Bertram Thomas
Henry Hellyer explored and mapped the then empty north-west quarter of Tasmania for the Van Diemen's Land Company. His life ended in tragedy.
His surviving journals give succinct descriptions of hardships encountered and overcome in gloomy forests
and difficult terrain - climate - fauna and flora - convict bush-companions - isolation - diet - and perseverance.
